What is a CVS?
A Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) is the generic name given
to the local independent organisations supporting the voluntary sectors.
They are set up as voluntary organisations and their membership comes
from local voluntary and community groups.
Their role is to support and facilitate the development and representation
of the sector at a local level. Through this, they strengthen the contributions
local voluntary sector organisations make to the economic, social and cultural
development of their community and provide a bridge between the voluntary sector
and key public agencies at a local level.
ELVON is a CVS. There are 57 CVS throughout Scotland in both rural and urban
areas representing a wide variety of individual organisations providing an enormous
range of services. There are 50,000 voluntary organisations covering the length
and breadth of Scotland.
